Take a minute and think of a time when your mind felt clear and at peace. It has to be a time when you were fully awake, so none of the “right when you wake up” or “right before you go to bed”. If it’s helpful to you close your eyes and walk through the halls where your memories are stored. That is where I envision all my memories being held, in a giant mahogany library. Maybe yours isn’t a library maybe it’s a record store or an art gallery, whatever the place you envision your memories are being stored, I want you to go there. I want you to go to the section that has the moments where you are most clear headed and at peace. You don’t have to tell me, and you can’t because this is a blog post, but think if that peaceful, clear moment and remember what you were doing at that time. When you were in this state where were you? Who were you with? What was going on in your life at that time. Do you have a lot of memories of having a clear and peaceful mind? Did it take you a while to think of when this last happened to you? Or does it feel like you’ve rarely or never experienced having your mind be at peace and clear? My hope is that by the time you are done with this article you will choose one thing to help you practice psychological self-care.
Psychological self-care are activities that help you to feel clear-headed and able to intellectually engage with the challenges that are found in your work and personal life. In short psychological self-care helps you get your mind right so you can effectively problem solve and overcome your daily life challenges. Having time to clear your head, to “get your mind right” allows you to engage in all aspects of your life efficiently and effectively. Below is a list of activities that you can choose from that help you practice psychological self-care.

When choosing a self-care activity to incorporate into daily life, its best to start small. Choose one thing on this list and start off by doing it once a week. If that is enough for you great, keep it there. If you find you may need more perhaps your psychological self-care activity needs to happen each day or once a week. Whatever you choose and whenever you choose to do it, your self-care activity should be something that replenishes you, so you are able to get back to your daily functioning and responsibilities.
